PhD Puppies

The Eltham Border Collies Story

We breed fabulous happy, healthy puppies. They have been described as PhD Puppies because they are so intelligent and easily trained.

It Starts With Our Adult Dogs

Breeding exceptional puppies begins with creating the best environment, providing top-quality food, and implementing a thorough socialization program. But most importantly, it starts with having the best dogs.

Simply the Best Dogs

To find the best dogs, we consider several important factors. We carefully select parents who are in excellent health, have outstanding temperaments, have been DNA tested, are free from heritable diseases—which is paramount—and have no health issues that can affect some Border Collies.

Once we’ve ticked all the boxes, we select a puppy from these parents to become a future mother or father. Our chosen puppies are happy, loving and gentle, with calm but confident temperaments ready to take on the world.

DNA Testing

Before including new puppies in our program, we DNA test them to ensure their health and confirm that their results meet our expectations.

Only when we’re certain of these results are we confident that our new puppy will grow into a fabulous dog, capable of producing the quality puppies that Eltham Border Collies are known for.

When you think about it, these are the qualities you should look for when selecting your own puppy.

It Takes Time, Patience and a Lot of Love from Us

By the time our new puppy is in her second year and ready for her first mating, she will have received plenty of love and training. She will have been socialized regularly and enjoyed daily exercise multiple times a day. Most importantly, she will have become a cherished member of our family, spending much of her time with us at home.

What Makes Our Puppies So Special

We have carefully selected the best dogs as the parents for our puppies. Soon after the puppies are born, we commence our socialisation program.
We start socializing our puppies through a unique program that equips them with real-life skills from an early age.

Real World Experience

They spend time in a half-acre grassy paddock and also enjoy walks in the bush with the adult dogs, on our hilly six-acre property .
This early socialization helps our puppies stand out, making them calm and more adaptable in new or potentially stressful situations. We even offer house-trained puppies at eight weeks.

A BRIEF HISTORY

Our Timeline

Our First Border Collie

Our first Border Collie was Sharla, a working dog. She was a beautiful girl, very head-strong, but a wonderful asset on the farm.
Sharla started as a typical farm dog. She loved her job, enjoyed working sheep immensely, but wasn't an inside dog. She was happiest out working.

The First Puppies

In 1990 Sharla, delivered an unplanned litter of litter of eight beautiful puppies. We decided to keep one and found loving homes with friends and family for the others.
Our puppy, Indi, transformed our lives and deepened our love for Border Collies.

Fabulous Puppies

Ever since, we have been breeding highly acclaimed puppies because of our unique early socialisation program, which sets our puppies apart from other puppies.
